The Californian rock instrumental heroes The Ventures genuinely deserve their legendary status. Although they were to go on to release 200 plus albums worldwide. In these early days of their British and European releases it was left to the 4 track EP to showcase the groups American hits on one piece of Vinyl with picture sleeves.

Their first two UK hits ‘Walk Don’t Run’ and Perfidia hit the pop charts top ten in September and December 1960. More hits followed in 1961, as did the EPs in those early years of the sixties. The Ventures constructed a powerful, compulsive sound, which not only became their trademark, but it was also echoed in the concurrent surfing scene style. ‘Walk Don’t Run’ reached number 2 in the U.S. charts and a top ten placing in the U.K. It went on to sell over a million copies, as did their follow up ‘Perfidia’ . Their continued appeal lay in their ability to embrace contemporary fashion without straying too far from their hit formula. They also survived several personnel changes along the way.
This pivotal instrumental group continued to release albums galore throughout the seventies and into the eighties including a host of collections that continues on. In 1969 they had their last major U.S. hit when ‘Hawaii Five-O’ the popular T.V. series theme tune reached number 4.
During the seventies they continued to tour every year and were received in Japan with fanatical status. They also continued to court contemporary sounds including disco and reggae. These early sixties Extended Play collections give a great venture into the unique and distinctive world of sound created by The Ventures. And once again they will treat us to the imaginative, sensual sounds that started them on the road to stardom. Constantly experimenting with new sounds and ideas they were ahead of their time.
They were known by many as the greatest ‘Surf Band’ - this may be correct but their style and music defined much more than that and they are the best selling instrumental rock band ever! They released over 250 albums including compilations, written over a thousand tunes and recorded over three thousand. They had 14 U.S. top 100 singles in the sixties and countless charting albums.
