JIMMY YOUNG - The Very Best of

All the hits! and more...
Nowadays probably best remembered as the presenter of ‘The Jimmy Young Programme’ on BBC Radio 2. Which ran for twenty nine years from 1973.

He was also a singing star of the 50s. The majority of these recordings were made for Decca, between 1952 & 1957, but there are four sides from 1951 which were originally issued on the Polygon label. Polygon Records (a name ‘inspired’ by the empty cage of a deceased parrot) was one of the first independent post war British record labels. Early in 1952, with his star on the ascent, he began touring the variety circuits. Later in the same year he switched record labels, to Decca, reaching the apex of his career in the mid 50s. In 1955 he became the first British artist ever to achieve the coveted No.1 chart position with two consecutive releases, Unchained Melody and The Man From Laramie.
